There is also a permanent exhibition of the work of Dick Bruna, the
creator of Nijntje/Miffy, that attracts visitors from across the world.
The Dom church and its tower (separated by a 1674 hurrycane) are over
750 years old. Utrecht’s historical value is also apparent from the
fact that it has been the religious centre of the Netherlands since the
eighth century CE and still is home to the main churches and
archbishops. Museum Catharijne Convent, one of our partners, is devoted to this history.
Due
to its central position within the country it is an important
transportation hub (rail and road) in the Netherlands. It has the
second highest number of cultural events in the Netherlands, after
Amsterdam, including festivals of old music, theater, gay culture, and
cinema. Every month there is a ‘cultural Sunday’ with many events.
And
there is much more. The city center has every kind of shopping
opportunity you may look for and the nightlife is exciting and relaxed
at the same time. Check the tourist office for more information.
